TO TEACH A DYSLEXIC AND/OR ADVANCED STUDENTS (Curriculum Giveaway!)

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER!
MOM TO ONE Comment #64!
---------
Rarely does a curriculum come along that caters equally to those with special needs and those who are advanced learners. It is rarer still to find one that can be used by children as well as adults, without causing one or the other to feel overworked or demeaned. It is SO rare, that I have found only one in all of the years that I’ve been a home educator.

The AVKO (Audio, Visual, Kinesthetic, Oral) Dyslexia Research Foundation distributes educational materials designed to help dyslexic children and other struggling learners. The process, however, is unlike any other. It encapsulates the 4 learning styles in such a way that even those who are excellent spellers and readers will be challenged to move forward, hone their skills and grow.

The AVKO Foundation was started by Don McCabe; A Reading Teacher who also happens to be Dyslexic. When I heard about this curriculum and the man who created it, I was quite intrigued, because my own father is Dyslexic. He, however, did not “find out” he is Dyslexic until he was in his 50’s. Before that, he lived with this “secret” that nobody would or could understand, because he didn't even understand it. Until the diagnosis, he had no understanding of why he could not “function” the way “others” can. The diagnosis…The Revelation....freed him from the cloud he had lived under his entire life.

When people with learning disabilities find out that they can hone the skills that they've already taught themselves, it is exhilarating. AVKO creates this feeling...this power... for so many students.  Because of the family members in my life who struggle with learning disabilities, I’ve been grateful to be one of the thousands of parents who use AVKO products. We use the AVKO Sequential Spelling Curriculum.  It is easy to use, and creates a learning environment that is relaxing to those who struggle with spelling. I use this curriculum with all of our children, even those who are accelerated learners.

The curriculum and tests are set up in such a way that students succeed even when they “fail.” Their mistakes become the learning device that creates success. Their successes spur them on to try harder to learn more!

CAN ANYONE SAY “BRILLIANT!”?

Mr. McCabe's mission includes teaching others how to teach. He wants people of all ages to be able to overcome reading and spelling struggles. In pursuit of this goal, his curriculum is set up to INSTRUCT PARENTS and TEACHERS so they have the tools, process and timing laid out for them in an easy sequence that prepares them for success in guiding their students. The video embedded into this post is a lecture to parents and teachers explaining this philosophy.

To find the many curriculum offerings feel free to check out the AVKO Foundation Catalog.

This giveaway is AWESOME! I just spent the morning searching for this giveaway. I came across it while reading educational and homeschooling blogs. This curriculum would be a huge blessing to our household. I have yet to find a spelling or for that matter a phonics program that challenges my daughter. She works at an advance level for her age. I would also LOVE to share it with a friend at the library (she has 4 girls) that would DEFINITELY benefit from using this program. We are hoping to work together and teach all of the girls. She is currently using the sample lessons on You Tube. I have been wanting to use this program for a long time!
God bless,
Tracey M.

I would love to win this for my 11 year old son as we are just starting on the "Homeschooling" route and could use all the help we can get. If we win it, it would help more than one child because when we are done with the curriculum, we will "Pay It Forward" to another family. That way other families will be enriched and helped by our good fortune. This will all be possible if we happen to be lucky enough to win. =) Thank you. our email is: bcmech01@embarqmail.com
