HEARBUILDER: AUDITORY MEMORY

THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED
Congratulations To Valerie (Comment #10)!

Over the years of teaching my children I've noticed that lectures are a tricky situation.  On one hand, the kids need to know how to sit still, listen and take notes; On the other, it's not exactly the best way to be sure they fully comprehend the material.  It takes time and effort to learn how to take notes and pick the topics that need to be written down. Furthermore, there are the mental gymnastics they must learn in order to file away key points of information into their long term memory so they can have a working knowledge of the material when they go back later to study their notes.

Some of my children have struggled to learn how to balance these issues.  As a matter of fact I know grown adults who have trouble sitting through lectures.  Some can't actively process the information without falling asleep, while others have issues with background noise to the point that they are too distracted to even catch most of what the lecturer is speaking about.

Hearbuilder has taken these problems to task!  They have come up with a practical solution to practice listening skills and auditory memory. Their new software actually teaches students strategies to help them develop and enhance listening and recall skills.  This software implements a systematic approach with record-keeping component and reinforcement activities, to help students practice important auditory memory, closure, and comprehension skills. Students become Recall Agents and help save MemoryTown from Dr. Forgetsit while learning key strategies for remembering numbers, words, sentences, and stories.

Home Edition:
  • Use with 1–4 children
  • Choose general levels of play for each child
  • Monitor child's progress
  • Print progress reports
  • Add background noise at expert level to give children practice attending in distracting situations

Professional Edition:
  • Monitor progress and track data for an unlimited number of students
  • Individualize each student program
  • Set levels of difficulty for each activity
  • Add background noise at any level and adjust the volume for each student
  • Customize and print reports
  • Analyze all responses

The HearBuilder Auditory Memory Software program, for grades K-8, allows players to build their memory skills in the comfort of their own home.  The social anxiety is eliminated so children can learn in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.  The skill levels include: recalling numbers, words, details, auditory closure, and responding to "wh" questions about short conversational segments. The graphics are appealing to students and the features are exciting for parents.  For example, we have the ability to add background noise to tasks so our students can perform an activity without and then with background noise in order to simulate the classroom.  They can actually practice listening while destracted so they are less anxious when it happens in the real world. Genius!!

I recommend this software for children with Auditory Processing Delays and/or Anxiety about taking notes and listening to lectures. It could also help any child learn to master their memory in real world situations.
